About Adventure Dog Ranch

Adventure Dog Ranch was founded in 2007 by Steve and Kerri Pinkston as a cage-free Alternative to traditional Kennels.
It’s a free-range boarding, daycare and training facility for dogs located minutes from I-5 in Marysville, WA. (North of Everett, WA)
Your canine companion gets to play all day in a supervised pack environment. Our original play yard was 10,400 Sq. Ft. We have just completed an additional play yard which has added 10,800 sq. feet. With the gate to the adjoining yard open this gives us a total of 21,200 sq ft. This allows plenty of romping space for even the most active canines.

Can my dog be an Adventure Dog?

Marysville's Premier, Cage-Free Dog Boarding, Daycare and Training Facility

    Adventure Dog Ranch FAQ’S:

What Exactly is Adventure Dog Ranch?

It’s Adventure for Your Dog. Romping, Playing and Socialization.
We are now in our 10th year of providing your dog with a happy, fun and safe place to stay. Adventure Dog Ranch is fully licensed and insured and we strive to offer the very best in canine care. We provide Cage-Free, Free-Range dog boarding which is a vast improvement over the traditional kennels of days gone by. Our 25,000+ Sq. feet of securely fenced, outdoor play area provides our daycare and boarding dogs with plenty of room for even the rowdiest pups to run.
Your best friend receives all of the benefits listed above, and you get the peace of mind that comes with leaving your best friend with people that truly understand dogs and love spending time with them.
So your dog’s not Lassie? We also offer dog training for those dogs (and the humans that love them,) who haven’t quite yet figured out their respective places in the family hierarchy, as well as those that seem too independent and stubborn to learn. Every dog has something that they desire enough to work for it… for some it’s food, for some it’s play and for others it’s affection. Finding what motivates your dog is only a small part of the battle. We have the skills needed to face these challenges and to help to restore peace to your home.
We are not a typical kennel. Aside from the ever present odor of disinfectant and the presence of dogs, most comparisons end right there. Our boarding dogs sleep indoors in bedrooms, not chain link dog runs. Our dogs have comfortable Cots, blankets and beds and heated rooms just like home. You won’t find any cages here… although we do allow dog crates for those dogs that sleep in them at home, dogs in training and owners that prefer that their dogs sleep in their crates.
The entire concept of Adventure Dog Ranch revolves around the following:
What does your dog want to do today?
Dogs love to run and play, so do we. It is our goal to provide your best friend with lots of love, exercise and stimulation in a safe, fun, loving environment.

So What is Cage-Free Dog Boarding Anyway?

Cage-Free Dog Boarding means that dogs are NOT Required to sleep in cages at night like in traditional dog kennels. Some of those places remind me of terrible prison movies gone bad and most weren’t good to begin with. The majority of our canine guests sleep on comfortable cots, with clean, fleece, blankets. They do so in one of our four, communal, bedroom sized, rooms, (heated of course.) Our guests get to enjoy the company of up to 6 of their best buddies from the play yard. This is often a mix of Free-Ranging guests, guests that decided they wanted to try out a dog crate for the night… (It happens more often than one would suspect,) and dogs crated at their human counterpart’s request. If your dog lhappens to love their crate, we’re fine with that. We know enough about canine behavior to accomadate a dog’s denning instinct. You can even bring their own crate and bedding with them, if that’s what they’re comfortable with. Comfort: That’s what we want to replicate. It’s even more soothing to your dog, when it smells like you and of home. A ratty old T-shirt that is impregnated with your scent can be of great comfort to a dog that has never stayed away from home before. However, please don’t pack a favorite as we cannot guarantee the safe return of items left at the ranch. It’s far too common, that adventurous canines decide that t-shirt is the perfect item for a friendly game of “Tug.”
A warm, comfortable, dry place to sleep, Playmates and friends, kind people to show off for, exercise and tons of play time, good eats, the smells of nature, gentle hands giving belly rubs. Yep. That sounds like the best comforts of home. And if it smells just like their favorite people, all the better.

What Do You Mean by Free Range Dog Boarding?

Free-Range means: There is lots of room to run, romp and play. We have 3 different play yards here at the ranch. A small one that we use primarily for introductions (less ground to cover if we need to intervene, distract or simply change the tempo.) The Large upper play yard where the oversized pause table and agility equipment sits and the Lower play yard, home of a crooked, beleaguered, hemlock tree, that sadly is giving up the ghost and must soon come down. (Don’t worry, it will happen after hours.) I hate to see that tree go as I’ve seen a multitude of dogs try to climb it’s crooked trunk. I can only hope that the next shade tree we plant there, will grow quickly and with similar character and good vibes.

How is Adventure Dog Ranch different from a traditional kennel?

We specialize in making certain that the most energetic dogs get the most out of their “Vacation.” Dogs need a chance to be dogs. To hang out with their own species and they really need to exercise and play to feel fullfilled.
Well socialized dogs of all shapes, sizes, ages and energy levels can safely gather, play and socialize under the watchful eyes of our experienced staff of pack leaders. Okay, most of the time it’s Steve, our illustrious owner. Early mornings and late afternoons, you’re just as likely to see Mrs. Alpha dog and webmaster, Kerri, communing with the pack. We are a veteran owned, small family business and it’s rare for us to have more than 25 dogs in our care. If your dog makes the cut… they truly are a “Lucky Dog!”

What is an evaluation and Why Do you Perform Them?

Evaluations are only one little part of what sets us apart from other dog boarding facilities. Another of our big bonuses, is Steve’s experience observing thousands of dogs in a pack environment and his skill as a Canine Behavior Specialist/trainer.
He can often spot the subtle body language and facial expressions that signal stress or annoyance, long before the average person would. Steve can sense a change in “pack energy,” sometimes even before Fido and Spot have noticed. His skills provide him with a great advantage, he doesn’t have to wait until there is an issue to intervene, he can be proactive. Steve is able to prevent annoyances from escalating into growls, posturing or bites.
Our Evaluations give us an opportunity to see your dog interact with you and a few select adventure dogs to judge their overall temperament and how comfortable they are around new humans (us) as well as new dogs.
For dogs that will be boarding with us, it also gives them an opportunity to check us out and get to meet us while their human companions are there to keep them feeling safe and secure. It takes time to develop trust on both ends of the leash so any opportunity to gain some and cement that new friendship is advantageous and will improve your dogs overall experience. Just like people, Some dogs aren’t great with strangers, but you’d be surprised how quickly most dogs pick up on Steve’s leadership Vibe. When they finally do come to spend the night, we are no longer strangers, we’re now old friends and playmates.
All of these things rolled together, help us to identify and weed out aggressive types, helps alleviate fear and anxiety and in general just keeps your dog SAFE!

Why Do You Need to Meet my dog?

We use this opportunity to judge your dogs level of stress, (Is their tail tucked? Are they avoiding eye contact?) If they appear scared, we may offer them a dog treat to see if will they take food? A dog that will accept food, is not overly fearful, just cautious or very excited. (It is not uncommon for even a well adjusted, well socialized dog to refuse a treat when they’re really excited, they can be dis-interested in food when there is so much new to see and do!)
A dog that appears scared during an evaluation, gets a much slower introduction than an easy-going, confident dog. They’ll first meet Starbuck, our oldest, most “Omega” dog. Starbuck is friendly and confident and has a knack for making all new guests feel welcome and safe.
We will always take the time to make sure that your dogs’ initial experience here is a positive one. Since it’s far simpler to create an initial good experience than it is to help a dog that’s had a succession of bad experiences regain his/her confidence.
We also judge their level of excitement and How they act with other dogs. (Are they running up to other dogs with too much exuberance? Are they bouncing off the walls? Or greeting new dogs with a level of expertise comparable to a diplomat meeting the queen? All of this is taken into consideration including their level of experience and excitement level to help us judge how they’ll react with dogs of different temperaments.

Okay I’m Sold, When Can I Bring My Dog For An Evaluation?

Evaluations are performed only on Saturday Afternoons and are by appointment only.We perform evaluations in this fashion so that we have more control over who your dog will meet and the overall energy of their first visit. This is just another extra step we take to keep everyone happy, less stressed and safe.
